RECORDING A WEATHER FORECAST, by Mª José Díez

The activity is about making a video newscast, of no more than 10 minutes duration, where students address the knowledge they have gained in the unit Weather and Climate”.

They will have to include:

-          A map of the country that includes different atmospheric symbols.

-          Elements of weather (temperature, precipitation, wind)

-          Natural weather disasters (floods, droughts, tornadoes, monsoons)

1. Students will watch examples of weather forecasts made for students of English:

or this one to learn the specific vocabulary they need:

3.The creativity of the newscast will be in their hands, they can insert images, live news from twitter, add music or an amazing begining, etc.

To develop this project:

-          They will be organized in groups of 4 people.

-          They have to divide roles within the members of each group (presenter, scriptwriter, director, cameras).

-          They have to make a script of everything that is going to be talked about in the newscast and also to design the weather map.

-          They can use different materials: newscasts, books, magazines, websites, social networks.

-          Once the roles have been divided and written the script, they have to deliver it to the teacher.

-          Once approved by the teacher, they can start recording the weather forecast video which will last form 3 to 10 minutes. Students can design their map or use the croma we have at the school

-          To share the video, they have to upload it into a cooperative board made with PADLET.

The activity contributes to the three kinds of UDL networks:

Affective-engagement: It is a role-playing activity, students work in groups and each one has an assigned role. Therefore, the group task depends on the joint collaboration of each of the group members.

Recognition-representation: students can choose the role they are going to work on in the group according to their abilities.

Strategic-action:
I provide them with different resources where they can find information and document themselves (newscasts, books, magazines, websites, social networks). I propose different tools with which you can perform the final task.
