MARIE CURIE, by Rosa Mª Sánchez

ACTIVITY: MARIE CURIE

This activity has been designed for students of 2nd ESO in the class of Physics&Chemistry and it can be done in two sessions.

FIRST SESSION

1. AFFECTIVE ENGAGEMENT

I show a picture of Marie Curie, when she was young, and I ask the students if they know who the woman in the picture is.

Then, I show a picture of Marie Curie, when she was older, and I ask the students if they know now who she is.

After they know that the woman in the picture is Marie Curie, I ask them to write and tell me words related to her life or the work she did. As they tell me the words, I make a Word Cloud using a Free Online Word generator.

2      REPRESENTATION

I divide the class into groups of three members. Every time they hear the music, one person from each group comes to where I am and I tell them one sentence related to Marie Curie, twice.

Then, they go back to meet their group and tell them that sentence. Every time we do this, a different person from each group comes to listen to the new sentence. They cannot write anything. For each sentence, I show on the Whiteboard an image related to the information given.

3.      ACTION AND EXPRESSION

In groups, the students have to complete the information or fill in the gaps in the sheet of paper given. The team with the most correct answers is the winner.

SECOND SESSION

3      ACTION AND EXPRESSION

Working with the same groups as the previous session, they have to write the information learned on an A3 cardboard, adding pictures, images, and some new information about Marie Curie that they have found out.

Finally, the students must present their work to the rest of the class.
